Preventing Noise from Interfering Your Neighbors
If you live in a apartment you will likely be aware of the impact that noise can have on your relationships with your neighbors. In many buildings there is an insufficient amount of sound insulation and many neighbors find themselves getting angry with one another because of the noise irritation between one another. Here are some things that you can do in order to help mitigate the noise that may be disturbing your apartment unit neighbors.
Floor Muffler
Those who live below you may be complaining about the pounding on the floor, particularly if you are a heavy footed walker or if you have pets or children. A floor muffler can help to mitigate this noise. A floor muffler is installed underneath your flooring, hardwood, carpet, or tile, and helps to deaden the sound that your neighbors below your apartment may hear when you walk on your floor. Different thicknesses of floor mufflers have different sound ratings so be diligent when you buy one.
Be Reasonable with Your Sound
Understand your neighbors and try to be reasonable with the noise you make. Keep your television and speakers pointed away from any shared walls and be reasonable with the volume that you play them with. Be careful as to the times when you play your tv and radio and be considerate of them.
Communicate with Your Neighbors
Try communicating with your neighbors if sound is bothering you or them. Explain the situation and try to find joint solution that work for you both. Be reasonable with your demands and explain your position thoroughly including the times you need to sleep. Often open communication with a neighbor can solve a problem. If the noise insulation is particularly bad ask the super for potential solutions to mitigate the noise levels in your apartment and involve the neighbors in this discussion.
